I’ve been working on a commission to write and draw a short graphic novel for New Writing North and Durham Book Festival. This is the first time they have commissioned graphic work, so it’s a real honour. It’s been a two year project with research and development, public participation, events and finally a full colour comic book, a fictionalised account of real lives in County Durham. The drawing below is one I made during when I visited the Just For Women Centre in Stanley, County Durham, where women meet to support one another and make things for their collective shop.
The project beganat Durham Book Festival in October 2017 with zine making in a day at the Empty Shop TESST space then continues with a lovely chat between me and Mary Talbot. The finished book, just on its way to the printers, will be launched at Durham Book Festival in October 2018, published by Mayfly Press.
