My book, Becoming Unbecoming, is almost ready to go off to print. It’s been a long haul and there are still niggly little edits to do, it’s never-ending! I made the first drawing 7 years ago, yes, seven years ago in 2008, when it wasn’t a book but more of an idea forming in the distance. When it started to seem like a book I made the funny little zine in the image, to see what it would look like. I wanted a plain brown paper package, a bit of a feeble joke really, but it works quite well visually I think. It looks a LOT more glamorous now it’s all grown up and official, and a Myriad Editions publication. I designed the image for the cover, so obviously I like it. I wouldn’t want to hand that over to someone else – one of the perks of being a graphic novelist I suppose. I’ve got some great comments for the cover too, from some great people, although I’m not going to say who.
If you are lucky enough to own one of these brown cardboard zines, hang on to it. there were only 100 made, they are all numbered, and maybe they’ll be worth a fortune in a few years, you never know. Of course, you wouldn’t sell though, because you love it too much.
